Sun is, without a doubt, one of the best Pumpkin songs from the
pre-Gish era. It’s unfortunate that this song never appeared on
an album. As you might know, it was originally released on a
rare, limited edition compilation of local Chicago acts in 1989.
An alternate mix of Sun can also be found on the Pumpkin’s first
demo tape, The Smashing Pumpkins. That second mix fades in
without the opening riff and has a longer, phased outro.
The bass is extremely hard to make out, even on both versions.
This is my interpretation, as it may be slightly inaccurate.
Sun should be played in drop D tuning.
